Regular monthly series that ran for 25 issues.
The Unknown Soldier is a character that first appeared back in 1966 in a series originally entitled Our Army At War which was basically Sgt. Rock's personal volume for the latter portion of its run. However, The Unknown Soldier made his own lengthy run in DC's Star Spangled War Stories, a volume that had began almost 15 years before the character's first appearance though it was in the early 70's that he took it over. After about a 50 issue run, in 1977 the series was renamed Unknown Soldier with #205 and so it remained until the series concluded with #268. Six years later a Maxi-Series was made, "The Unknown Soldier", which lasted for 12 issues. The series portrayed the Unknown Soldier as rather different from the original.
After this series there was an eight year wait for another volume when Vertigo had Garth Ennis publish a four issue Mini-Series, also entitled "Unknown Soldier", that focused upon a man trying to find out the truth about the original Unknown Soldier.
Most recently this 2008 fourth volume of the "Unknown Soldier" came into print. The series focuses upon a new man fighting for Africa in more modern times.
The series is reprinted in four Trade Paper Back collections:
Unknown Soldier: Haunted House (#1-6)
Unknown Soldier: Easy Kill (#7-14)
Unknown Soldier: Dry Season (#15-20)
Unknown Soldier: Beautiful World (#21-25)
