VALUES SUGGESTED ARE FOR 'RAW' COPIES. THIRD-PARTY GRADED/SLABBED COPIES CAN FETCH SIGNIFICANTLY MORE ESPECIALLY IN HIGH GRADES.
All issues of The Avengers were distributed in the UK with some rare and scarce issues dotted around (see individual listings). The first ND or Non Distributed issue wasn't until #121 (coincidentally the same issue number as Amazing Spider-Man. Took me years to notice that!).
Over the years I've noticed that very high grade pence copies of #1-20 or so just aren't around.
This is a strong title at the moment with the success of the Avengers Assemble movie. Wasn't it great? Full of action, well cast, witty script.
Issues #1-8 have a printed 9d (ninepence) cover price. #9 it seems only had a 9d ink cover stamp though I have a memory of a printed 9d. Needs checking! #10-27 have an ink 10d cover stamp which is quite large and can sometimes be quite heavy unfortunately. #28-45 have a printed 10d cover price. #46-71 have a 1/- cover stamp. #72 is the start of a printed 1/- cover price until #92. Between #82 and #92 some UK copies have a 5p cover stamp instead of the printed 1/-.
(Written in 2010) Values listed are for UK pence copies (unless ND cents copy). The gap between pence and cents copies is currently roughly about half (ie. UK £20 = US £40). In higher grades (Very Fine Plus and beyond) the gap widens. In extremely high grades (9.4 Near Mint and beyond), cents copies can be stratospheric, at multiples of Guide. Bear in mind this is a very general overview at this present time, a rough guide. Actual sales of high grade pence copies will give a more accurate picture.
2019+: US markets are recognisig the scarcity of UK Pence Variants so the gap may well close a little on pence versus cents copies.
