AS WITH ALL COMICS/TITLES, VALUES SUGGESTED ARE FOR 'RAW' COPIES. THIRD-PARTY GRADED COPIES CAN FETCH SIGNIFICANTLY MORE ESPECIALLY IN HIGH GRADES.
All issues of the Fantastic Four were distributed in the UK from 1961, right up until the first one-off Non Distributed issue #80 (Nov 1968) and then a short run of ND starting at #144. Early UK Variant copies have a printed 9d (ninepence) in place of the American 10 or 12 cents. Otherwise it is fundamentally the same comic, printed at the same time on the same paper apart from price and cover date and some distribution information in the indicia.
UK Variants: Issues #1-31 have a printed 9d (nine pence) cover price, #32-41 have an ink 10d cover stamp which is quite large and can sometimes be quite heavy unfortunately. #42-68 have a printed 10d cover price. #69-84 have a 1/- cover stamp. #85 is the start of a printed 1/- cover price until #115. #116 had an 8p cover sticker. #117 the printed 6p cover price begins and lasts up to #143.
In the mid/late 1990's, Marvel re-launched their main titles from issue #1 again which causes all sorts of listing problems for historians like me! From Jan 1998 volume two of Fantastic Four appeared and lasted until #70 Aug 2003 when they realized many months before that issue #71 would in fact be 'old numbering' #500 (Aug 2003). So the title returned to its original numbering and all subsequent issues are listed under the first series entry here. And the same thing happened with the prospect of issue #600 which carrried on the old numbering as of Jan 2012.
Values listed are for UK pence copies (unless ND cents copies). The gap between pence and cents copies is currently roughly about half (ie. UK £20 = US $40). In higher grades (Very Fine Plus and beyond) the gap widens. In extremely high grades (9.4 Near Mint and beyond), cents copies can be stratospheric, at multiples of Guide. Bear in mind this is a very general overview at this present time, a rough guide. Actual sales of high grade pence copies will give a more accurate picture.
The series reached the impressive number of #611 and then it was cancelled to re-launch as yet another #1 in Jan 2013. And another in 2014. This title needs a long run and some stability. I have been disappointed in reading it in the last couple of years.
