Produced by Portfolio Editions in 2003 to celebrate 65 Golden Years, it came in a presentation folder with a facsimile free gift Whoopee Mask and Beano phonecard featuring the cover art (no longer valid). The comic is a small A5 size 15.5 cm x 21.5 cm. Original cost price £10.00.
I think it looks a bit unimpressive to produce a replica comic half the size of the original but there you are.
The comic has STAPLES which the original did not have. I get maybe three e-mails a week from people thinking they have found a genuine Beano #1 from somewhere in their loft. I have disappointed SO many people!
The comic alone can sell for anything from £1-3 in Near Mint. The complete package about £10-£15 though it is more desirable if the seal is still intact.
Note that there was an A5 size reprint of the the first issue that came with Beano #2000. It was 'darkened' to appear closer to the original colour of the paper pulp used back in 1938.
The Sunday Post in Scotland gave away a free facsimile copy of Beano #1 in 2010 but it only had 24 pages whereas the original Beano #1 had 28 pages. It has STAPLES which the original Beano #1 didn't have. The border also 'cuts' the top of the little black boy figure top left. The size is 27.7 cm x 21cm wide which is a bit smaller than a normal Beano size comic which is 30cm x 21cm.
