HURRICANE

Sub-titled Companion Paper to Valiant though it ended up joining Tiger. Very collectibel title with massive interest in the first 10 or 15 issues, some of which have seen prices of £50 each on eBay UK in recent times. Certainly a tough set to put together. The first issue free gift of a TSR 2 Flying Model is incredibly hard to find and could add at least £150 to the value if not more. The predominantly white cover on issue #1 makes very high grade copies a rarity hence the value for true Near Mint, of which I have only ever seen one or two copies. Hurricanes are prone to rusty staples which can vary from light surface rust to entire disintegration and paper damage so high grade copies with clean staples are rare.

The annuals ran from 1965 to 1984 and are pretty plentiful on E Bay, the 1965 at £40 or so in true Near Mint. Having said that a VG copy sold on eBay UK (Nov 2007) for £28. Free gift in issue #2 was the Hurricane Howler, and #3 had a Super Kreem Toffee Bar. Yum! #4 and #5 had 4 page Book of Records supplements. Make sure they're not missing!

STOP PRESS! Mar 2010: a very high grade original owner copy sold on eBay UK for an amazing £511. The page quality looked exceptional in a very nice off white to white. The free gift TSR 2 model still had its original rubber band diagonally across the corner. It is probably the best known copy of comic and gift.  Very Fine at least one would have thought. The winning bidder had placed a back-up extra bid so he (or she) must have placed a bid in excess of the final amount. It just goes to show A) the amazing power of E Bay and B) a comic is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it C) collectors are sometimes mad.
