This first incarnation of The Flash (Jay Garrick) was a fantastically popular character of the 1940s, becoming a member of the Justice Society of America in All Star Comics. The character was revived ten years later in the Silver Age as police scientist Barry Allen and picked up the numbering from #105 onwards.
