In the last week of August 2011 DC brought their existing line of titles to an end and replaced them with a line of 52 first issues that takes place in a new post-Flashpoint universe.
This flagship title saw the launch of the new DCU Batman with Bruce Wayne the only man left wearing the Batman mask.
The "New 52" initiative relaunch of Batman starts off with a year long story from the critically acclaimed team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. Starting with the eighth issue, the title received a back up feature. Under Snyder and Capullo, the series quickly became acclaimed among critics and fans alike, and was regularly amongst the top selling, if not, the top selling monthly title from month to month. The title would be considered the linchpin of the Batman titles, spawning crossover events such as The Night of the Owls, Death of the Family, Zero Year, and Endgame.
In September 2013 DC had all its books focus villains along side the crossovers Trinity War and Forever Evil and number them by '.1', '.2' , '.3' and '.4'.
The four villain books in Batman were;
Batman #23.1 The Joker #1 (Written by Andy Kubert and drawn by Andy Clarke)
Batman #23.2 The Riddler #1 (Written by Scott Snyder and Ray Fawkes and drawn by Jeremy Haun)
Batman #23.3 The Penguin #1 (Written by Frank Tieri and drawn by Christian Duce)
Batman #23.4 Bane #1 (Written by Peter J. Tomasi and drawn by Graham Nolan)
In common with the other 'new 52' titles, the first issue sold out quickly and other printings and variant followed. In fact, they went a bit nuts with Batman. The variants are ridiculous. Issue #50 is a "work in progress" as far as the variants are concerned.
The first few issues of this title now are hot! £30 for #1 not an unusual sight in a comic shop or comic mart wall.
