SPRING-HEELED JACK

Publishers: ALDINE
Dates: 1904
These amazing ‘Penny Dreadfuls’ occasionally appear on auction sites. Spring-Heeled Jack was one of the first popular horror/mystery characters and one can see a Jack the Ripper influence. Some commentators have cited this character as an influence on Batman who debuted in May 1939 in Detective Comics #27. A Fair/Good run of the 12 issues in the series was sold by Vault Auctions for £300 in May 2004.
