This series was originally produced by the Amex corporation in the 1940s and 1950s and the artwork is in a very stylish red and black with a stiff card cover. The series was later reproduced by Baird Books in black and white with new cover artwork, using a softer cover and re-titled Famous Stories in Pictures. The series didn’t flourish and although more issues were planned, none appeared but they are charming in their own distinctive way and provide an interesting alternative to the issues produced by Classics Illustrated as well as two titles not produced in that series: Henry V and Barnaby Rudge.
